Here are the schedules. Come on out and take in some summer action!

Panthers drop season finale to Dekaney 68-55.

The Wildcats completed their undefeated run through district at the Panthers' expense. Congratulations to the district champions.

Panthers fall to Tomball 77-70.

It was way too much like the first game. The Panthers took a ten point lead into the 4th quarter and then everything went bad. They played hard the whole way, perhaps too hard, trying to not let it happen to them again. But they just couldn't turn the tide.

The other games were similar also with leads that slipped away at the end. At this point it's all about learning how to win, and expecting it to happen. Finish strong against Dekaney, Panthers!

Pictures are coming but, on a personal note, I'll be travelling to Ohio on Saturday for my father's funeral on Monday. [He was 93 and enjoyed a good life.] So it will take some time before I can get to processing those pictures. Bear with me. Photo gallery - all levels posted except for JV. JV pics coming from Mrs. Wilkerson!

Panthers can't overcome deficit with rally in 4th quarter, fall to Klein 64-59.

The Panthers trailed by 16 heading into the final period. They outscored the Bearkats 22-11 in the final period but it wasn't enough.

Golden Eagles outgun Panthers 68-47.

Well, it was close for about 10 minutes of the first half but Klein Forest's defensive pressure forced turnovers that resulted in a 20 point halftime lead by the Golden Eagles. Both teams substituted heavily and KF Coach Cary Black (KO class of '87) turned off the pressure in the 2nd half, so it was mostly a matter of playing the time off the clock. Good luck to the Golden Eagles in the playoffs.

Photo gallery - varsity only. Of course there were no sub-varsity games played this time after the weather delay.

The Panthers travel to Klein on Tuesday and then play their final home game next Friday against Tomball. It will be Senior Night! Go get two wins this week, Panthers!

Panthers come from behind to beat Spring at the buzzer 65-63!

Wow! The Panthers finally overcame the season's big hurdle - winning a close one with clutch play down the stretch. Congratulations, Panthers! We're really proud of you!

The Panthers were behind in the final minute but sophomore Ellis Moore stepped up big time - as Coach Floyd has been begging him to do - put the Panthers on his back and - with some help from his friends - made this dream come true. Way to go, Ellis! It was his shot from the corner that tied the game, then a steal, a drive to the bucket as time was ticking away. The shot went up and the Lion defender slapped it away. Fortunately a college referee didn't hesitate to make the call - goaltending! And the Panthers had shocked the home team with an improbable win, this short handed team proving its mettle in the most difficult of circumstances. Amazing.

Panther comeback falls short in loss to Westfield 46-43.

In what was a close game most of the way the Panthers found themselves facing a nine point deficit in the middle of the 4th quarter. They fought their way back and had the final possession trailing by a single point. A charge call on that possession decided things in favor of the Mustangs. It looked like a good call from your webmaster's position on the baseline, and pictures seem to confirm that. [A technical foul and last second intentional foul by the Panthers increased the final margin to three points.]

The JV Panthers put up a valiant fight also against the Mustangs but also came up short in the end.

Photo gallery - everything now posted.

Shorthanded Panthers can't hold on, fall to Collins 87-67.

Decimated by injuries and illness, the Panthers still managed to battle to a tie at the half. The second half, though, was all Tigers as they pulled away to a 20 point win. No pictures of these games but note that the JV and Varsity pics from Tomball are here.

Panthers fall to Dekaney 107-60.

Dekaney really is that good. The Panthers played well, played hard, and we are proud of them. But this is a Dekaney team that just effortlessly scores from everywhere, especially behind the 3-pt arc. That's why they are undefeated after the 1st half of the district season.

The good - great! - news for Panther fans came in the Freshmen Black game where our guys really stepped it up. It took overtime, and the Panthers had to overcome an early five point deficit in the extra period, but they gutted it out to score an inspiring victory in a great game! Congratulations, Panthers! Photo gallery - all levels now posted. [More JV photos are coming from Karen Wilkerson also!]

Hey, the booster club also scored a $100 check from Buffalo Wild Wings when a lady from the stands with the lucky ticket coolly drained a free throw at half time!

Panthers surrender to Tomball 52-47.

The Panthers led 39-29 late in the 3rd quarter, then were out played and out scored 23-8 the rest of the way. The Cougars earned this one the old fashioned way - rebounds, steals, layups and free throws. Sometimes it is all about who wants it more. Photo gallery coming.

The JV also surrendered a late lead to take a disappointing loss.

Photo gallery - JV and Varsity.

Another routine victory. Panthers down Klein 75-60!

It was a great, close game most of the way. Tied at the half. Then the Panthers jumped to an 11 point lead in the 3rd only to see Klein score nine unanswered. This time, though, the Panthers answered to take a nine point lead after three quarters. The Panthers were in control from that point, leading by as many as 18. Klein was forced to foul. And the Panthers stroked lots of free throws! Game over.

Seriously, this was hardly routine. I think it was KO's 2nd victory over a Glenn Arnold coached Klein team - a great tribute to him because he's been there a while. So we need to appreciate the job Coach Floyd and his staff did. Well done, coaches! Congratulations, Panthers! We're really proud of you! Let's go get Tomball on Tuesday! One game at a time.

How about those Sophomores? They let a lead slip away at the end, then Matt Holcomb nailed a three at the end of regulation to send the game into OT. The Panthers grabbed a lead, lost it, and were trailing by three as the clock wound toward zeroes. Matt Holcomb from the corner - another three for the Panther win! Congratulations, Panthers!

Our other three teams lost competitive games to the Bearkats. Wait till next time!

Photo gallery - all except JV are posted here. Thanks to Karen Wilkerson for again shooting the JV game! Her gallery is here.

Panthers fall to Klein Forest 67-41.

The Panthers weren't in this one as the Golden Eagles jumped to a 22-12 lead after the 1st quarter and were in control.

The Panthers will regroup to host Klein on Friday. Let's go Oak!

Panthers drop another close one, fall to Spring 60-55.

It was yet another great game and the Panthers were better and much more competitive than anyone could have expected before the season started. So we are definitely proud of these guys.

On the other hand the Panthers had a one point lead with a couple of minutes to play - albeit after trailing the whole game - and once again just couldn't convert in the end game. It's very frustrating. But there is great promise here. Hang in there, Panthers! Keep the faith.

Things didn't turn out better for the other Panthers teams so it was a long night. Photo gallery - everything is now posted. Separate photo gallery for the JV - photos courtesy of Karen Wilkerson. Thanks, Karen!

On behalf of the faculty, thanks to all the booster parents for the nice Teacher Appreciation Night buffet!

Thanks especially to the folks at Shell for the generous $5,000 check presented to the Booster Club tonight!

Panthers fall to Westfield 47-44.

Another close loss. The Panthers trailed by two at the half and my six heading into the final quarter.

Missed free throws = 84-83 loss to Klein Collins.

This was a great game and our Panthers proved that they can play with anyone in 13-5A. After digging themselves a hole early the Panthers turned it on and had the game tied at 42 at the half. With 2:45 left the Panthers led by 7. They lost that lead but still led by 4 with 45 seconds remaining. A clutch Tiger three cut it to one, then the Panthers missed two of the four free throws they missed in the final minute. The Tigers launched a three with on their final possession. A late whistle sent the Tiger to the line shooting three with 0:78 left; he made two and a last gasp Panther shot bounced off the backboard and the front of the rim.

It was a good call, Panther fans. [The problem was that the clock was reset to the time it stopped after the late whistle. It should have been at the time of the shot and the foul. That almost certainly didn't make a difference.] Photo gallery - all levels.

Congratulations to the Panther Freshmen Gold! Their 46-35 victory once again saved the Panthers from a sweep at the hands of the Tigers. The Black team also played well before falling at the end.

The Panthers will regroup to travel to Westfield on Tuesday. Panthers, what we ask is for a level of confidence that matches your ability. Right now that's the only real problem we have.

List of KO Basketball Sponsors

Panthers fall to Crosby 69-60.

The Panthers played well for 2 1/2 quarters, battling valiantly back from an early deficit to take the lead at the half. Once again, though, they seemed to lack the confidence needed to stay on the attack with the lead late in the game. The offense came to a screeching halt. Perhaps it was the result of fatigue. Photo gallery.

The Panthers need to regroup fast as district starts Friday as the Panthers host the Tigers from Klein Collins. The holiday games start at 11 am and the varsity plays at 2 pm.

Panthers drop technical decision to MacArthur 58-54.

It was a great game and our Panthers played well most of the way - very well, in the opinion of your webmaster. It was a back and forth game but the Panthers had a two point halftime lead and led by five mid way through the third. The last couple of minutes of the 3rd quarter were disastrous for the Panthers - the lead turned into a four point deficit.

The game was even though going into the final few minutes. One of the Panthers slapped the backboard on the General's bucket and was called for a technical. Fair enough, that's the rule. Problem is that exactly the same thing happened in reverse a few possessions later and there was no call. Simply not fair and it marred an otherwise well officiated game.

Of course the Panthers failed to score on their final three possessions of the game and it was really Panther miscues in that third quarter that made any of this relevant. Still, there was much more positive today than negative. Our Panthers have made tremendous progress thus far this season and this is now a good team. We're proud of you, Panthers! Kudos to Coach Floyd and his staff for a job well done. Photo gallery.

The Panthers will play at 10:30 Wednesday morning in the "Porter" gym. Let's get a win, Panthers!

Panthers beat Conroe 72-62!

The Panthers led for nearly all of this one, leading by about the winning margin for most of the second half. Nice work, Panthers! Pictures.

The Panthers play again at noon on Tuesday against the winner of the game between Aldine Macarthur and Willis.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Support our varsity at the Conroe Tournament starting December 27th!

Panthers vs. Conroe at "The Pit" at Conroe HS at noon on December 27th!
Let's turn it on, Panthers, and get ready for a very competitive district race.

All teams play Klein Collins at KO on News Years Eve - Friday 12/31.

Freshmen Gold vs. Spring in Oak Ridge Tournament - December 10th.

South Houston game pictures are here -everything, including lots of new 9th Black pictures.

Panthers drop a heartbreaker to Baytown Sterling in overtime 71-69.

I don't have any details as your webmaster didn't make the trip to Baytown. Obviously, though, it was a tough loss.

All teams except for the varsity have a game on Monday morning at KO versus Dulles. The varsity won't play again until the December 27th tip off of the Conroe Tournament.

Panthers lose shooting touch, fall to South Houston 79-65.

The game was much closer than the score indicates. In fact the Panthers seemed to have things in hand with a nice lead midway through the 3rd quarter. Then the shots stopped falling and they just couldn't get them to start again.

The problem wasn't limited to the varsity. The Freshmen Gold won easily but all the other Panthers teams just had a really hard time scoring this night. So all the other teams took a loss despite outstanding efforts in each case. Thanks to the Gold team for allowing us to avoid the sweep.

Pictures are coming for Varsity, Freshmen Black and Sophomore games.

Panthers survive trip and beat Sam Rayburn 60-57!

The bus died on the ship channel bridge. Not good. By all accounts it was scary. Players called parents for rides to the game. KISD transportation sent another bus to rescue Coach Harshaw.

The Panthers were able to steady their nerves, clear their heads, and down the Texans 60-57! Nice work, gentlemen!

Meanwhile our Freshmen Gold squad defeated New Caney to play for the Consolation Championship at Oak Ridge. Unfortunately a weak 3rd quarter - with Chess Lopez on the bench in foul trouble - handed the victory to Spring. Still, it was a nice effort by the Panthers. Chess - we need you on the floor young man.

Support the Panthers this weekend!

Another schedule change: The varsity game has been moved to Sam Rayburn HS on Friday night at 7:30pm. [They are having electrical problems at Phillips Field House and it's not available this weekend.] Sam Rayburn is just down the street from Phillips, so it's not a major change. [Take 45 South to College St. - turn left - right on Spencer Hwy. - left on Burke (past Phillips Field House and Pasadena Memorial Stadium about a block) and the school is on the right.]

The JV is at the Spring Tournament this weekend.

The Sophomores and Freshmen Gold have tournaments at Oak Ridge.

Come on out and support our teams! What makes it fun is that, across the program, we really have a bunch of really awesome young men wearing the Oak uniform. We appreciate all of them!

Panthers heroic comeback runs out of gas three minutes too soon as they fall to Kempner 73-62.

Wow! What a great game. It's amazing to say that after a loss but the Panthers were facing a Cougar team that just beat district favorite Klein Forest and had our Panthers down by 25 early in the 3rd quarter. Game over? Not even close!

Somehow the Panthers kept the faith and turned it up. With about three minutes to go it was 58-55. Great defense - lots of scoring off the defense, just what we needed against the much larger Cougars - and a nice mix of inside and outside attack gave the Panthers a chance at the end. Unfortunately the shots stopped falling and few turnovers were too much for the tired Panthers to overcome in those last few minutes. But, Panthers, we sure are proud of you! This team is growing up - together - quickly! Photo gallery.

The JV won in a foul fest. It wasn't pretty or fun to watch but it certainly lasted a long time. The Panthers pulled away in the final seconds. Photo gallery.

Both freshmen teams won in exciting games. Photo gallery for Black team. Unfortunately the sophomores came up short. So the Panthers took three out of five against Kempner - a good night for the program!

Apologies for the Freshmen A - Sophomore schedule change. When the games were moved to KO due to a scheduling SNAFU at Kempner the order of these games was changed to our usual scheduling - Freshmen B and Sophs at 4 pm. That was made clear to the folks at Kempner. Nevertheless they sent both their freshmen teams to play at 4 pm rather than the sophomores. We really had no choice but to make the last minute change.

Panthers capture 3rd place, Bronze in Katy Tournament with 93-42 win over Davis!

The Panthers recovered in impressive fashion in Saturday's game two. Finally the shots were dropping and the Panthers took it to Houston Davis 93-42! Nice work, Panthers!

The Panthers took it on the chin in the morning game against Westside. The game was actually very competitive but the Panthers could never recover from giving the Wolves a 10 point margin in the middle of the 1st quarter. The game was back and forth after that with the Panthers struggling to overcome the rebounding advantage of the larger Wolves. Photo gallery.

The varsity Panthers grabbed a win to advance to the bronze winners bracket in the Katy Tournament. The Panthers jumped out to a double digit lead and maintained that for most the game to secure the 19 point win.

The Panthers return to Katy Taylor to face Westside at 10:30 am. Win or lose they will play a 2nd game at 3 pm. Good luck, Panthers!

Panthers take two tough losses in Katy - look forward to a better weekend.

The Panthers faced two good teams in Katy on Thursday and took two tough losses, falling 61-49 to Langham Creek and 87-63 to Mayde Creek.

Our guys will regroup to do battle at 3:30 on Friday at Katy Taylor. We don't know the opponent yet. We will be in the bronze bracket of the tournament on Friday and Saturday.

Let's go Oak!

Panthers complete sweep of Montgomery with come-from-behind win by the varsity!

Time seemed to have stood still as this was exactly the kind of KO-Montgomery battle that we always had back in the days when we were in the same district. All four games were very competitive as the Bears are always well coached and they play very hard. Fortunately the Panthers were able to pull off the wins!

The varsity game was unique. The Panthers were on fire in the first quarter, racing to an 11-0 lead and a 31-20 lead after a quarter! But those jump shots are fickle and the Panthers went cold. Credit also a patient Montgomery attack against the Oak zone - a great shooting from the corners by the Bears. The lead was only 43-40 at the half.

The Panthers found themselves in a six point hole midway through the 4th quarter. A defensive change by Coach Floyd allowed the Panthers to turn up the pressure and win the battle on the boards down the stretch. The Panthers executed almost flawlessly. They drained their free throws - including both ends of two 1&1s by Spencer Thevenin after he took two huge charges (He took six on the game!) to lead the Panthers in crunch time. Final score - Panthers 72, Montgomery 66. Impressive execution and poise by a bunch of Panthers who were very frustrated a few minutes earlier but didn't let that end their night. Thanks, guys!

The JV and Freshmen Gold Panthers also were tough when they had to be. Special kudos to our Freshmen Black Panthers for their stellar defense tonight. Not many teams at any level play that well on the defensive end of the court.

Pictures for all teams - Click here.

Congratulations to the JV Panthers - Consolation Champs at Willis Tournament!

The Panthers dropped game one to Kingwood Park but then defeated Magnolia and Crosby to get the consolation trophy. Nice work, gentlemen! The photo gallery from the Crosby game (all pictures now) is here.

The varsity dropped a heartbreaker in game one of the Magnolia Tournament, falling to Lamar Consolidated 51-47 after leading most of the way. The Panthers blasted Lufkin Hudson 72-54 to grab win #1! They'll play Oak Ridge again at 4:30 on Friday at Magnolia.

The varsity Panthers fell to Oak Ridge for the 2nd time in week one. Final score: 73-36. The defense wasn't very effective and the Panthers were crushed on the boards by the bigger War Eagles. Photo gallery.

The varsity lost another close game on Saturday to close out the tournament.

Panthers fall to Oak Ridge 76-53 in opener.

The game was closer, and the Panthers much more impressive, than the final score would leave you to believe.

Things didn't start well as the Panthers surrendered a 15-1 lead to the War Eagles before getting on track. But the Panthers cut the lead to ten at the half and trailed by only seven late in the 3rd quarter. Really great defense gave the Panthers a chance but it was forgone thanks to a series of missed layups. Eventually the Panthers just seemed to run out of gas.

Still, it was really an impressive effort that showed the great promise of this young and inexperienced Panther team. We're proud of you guys! Go get some wins at Magnolia this weekend!

Unfortunately things did not go better for the other Panther teams. So they will regroup and get back to work. Click here for pictures of all teams!

Speaking of pictures, we took Varsity team pics on Tuesday. Kyle Vinton is ill and is not pictured. We'll fix that eventually but we needed team pics to send to people. You can see them here. Game pictures had to wait a bit to get these done.

Also we still need volunteer photographers because I can't be everywhere. If you're will I have equipment to loan. Please contact the webmaster. Thank you!

Meet the Panthers! (And enjoy some chili!)

Meet the Panthers Night is Tuesday, November 9th beginning at 7 pm in the KO commons.

We will have our traditional Chili Cook-Off dinner. Each team will have it's own chili and other Klein Oak groups will also offer chili to sample. It's lots of fun and a great way to kick off an exciting new season!
